Ready to make the switch?

If you're interested in making the switch from your current eCart/SiteBuilder host, but not quite sure what to do next, then you've come to the right place. We've provided a checklist below for you to follow that should help the transition run smoothly, so be sure to read through each step before doing anything. Following these steps will allow you to keep your 'old' site open while the 'new' site with us is being set up. At this time we also provide a Free Site Migration service if you're worried about handling any of the more technical side of things.

Switching Host Checklist

  • Sign up with Little Fish
    When you sign up for your Little Fish eCart & SiteBuilder, select yes for the Temporary Site during signup. This way you can keep your site open at your current host while you set up your new site with us. After we have installed your eCart, you will be sent an email with your login information.
  • Backup your data
    While waiting for your eCart to be installed, back up all your site information at your old host if you haven't done so already. If you don't have a backup feature, you can copy your text to WordPad. Other options to get this information might be if your site has a feature that will export some of your store information to a CSV format. Anything that will help save you some time later will be beneficial.
  • Build your website
    Once your eCart is installed, you will be sent an email with your login information. You can then start to build your website either from scratch, or by uploading all your saved information from your store at your old host.   • Create your email accounts
    If you want to use the same email addresses you use at your old host, then you can create them on our servers in your cPanel. This should help ensure a smooth transition for receiving your email once the nameservers have been changed. You can find instructions on setting up email in our knowledgebase.
  • Change nameserver settings
    This needs to be done where your domain is registered. Nameserver(or DNS) settings can be found in your 'Little Fish Account Information' email. Once the changes have been made for the nameservers, this DNS change needs to take effect, or propogate, across the internet. We have seen this take as little as a few minutes, but it can take up to 72 hrs. So in the meantime, you may keep seeing your old website pages, or even see the pages switch back and forth between the old and new. This is just a part of that process and it will resolve on it's own.
  • Cancel account with old host
    Now that you have changed the nameserver and have verified that the changes have indeed taken hold, you can cancel your account with your old host.
